A Close Shave?

Two weeks ago, we illustrated that if the rate of increase in UK mechanical ventilation (MV) bed occupancy we had seen over the preceding month were to continue for just two more weeks, we would reach the level at which last October’s national lockdown was initiated.

So what happened next?

The increase in MV bed occupancy did indeed continue at that rate for another week. Fortunately though it plateaued and is now showing signs of falling – following the trend which is now more established in hospital admissions.

For now at least, the tide appears to have turned, but it was a close shave.
